Iconography of San Raffaele:

Saint Raphael, as an angel, is often depicted in Christian iconography with some distinctive characteristics:

Angelic robe: San Raffaele is represented with a white or luminous robe, typical of angels, which symbolizes purity and holiness.

Wings: As an angel, Saint Raphael is often depicted with large wings, a symbol of his celestial nature and his ability to fly between heaven and earth.

Nail or Fish: A distinctive iconographic symbol associated with San Raffaele is the fish or fish's claw. This symbol refers to the story in the Book of Tobit, in which Saint Raphael guides Tobit to catch a large fish in the Tigris River. Later, the fish's nail is used to cure Tobit's blindness. So, in many representations of San Raffaele, it is possible to find a fish or a fish's nail as an attribute.

Path or traveling staff: Because Saint Raphael assists Tobit on his journey, some depictions may include a path or traveling staff, symbols of his role as guide and protection during pilgrimages.

Looks of compassion: Saint Raphael is often depicted with a kind and compassionate look, which reflects his mission of assistance and help to human beings in their needs.

Depictions of St. Raphael may vary slightly depending on artistic style and cultural traditions, but these key elements help identify him as a celestial angel and divine intercessor. The image of him is often associated with divine help and spiritual guidance, especially in times of travel and difficulty.
